KUNG HEI FAT CHOI

Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday among the Chinese-Filipino Community in the Philippines. Because today is their New Year I am greeting them Kung Hei Fat Choi.
Welcome YEAR OF THE OX.
this is the Chinese sign OX

These are some of the Chinese traditions that until now they are still practicing:
This Dragon Dance is performed as entertainment during the festive of Chinese New Year.

Fireworks- to drive the bad evils away
gold coins

Paper money and other lucky charms that you will hang in the doors or inside the house

Wearing of red clothes - as red is the symbol of luck

It is customary for the family to prepare sweet foods or foods made from glutinous rice such as TIKOY-as this represents family to stick together. This is also the stuff that is favorite to give among friends. Cooked Noodles as symbol of long life
Don’t forget the 12 different kind round of fruits that means wealth.

On New Year’s Eve, all family members gather for this food as their evening mealBy lighting incense before the meal, the head of the family symbolically invites the departed ancestors to join the occasion. After the meal, children pay their respects to their parents by bowing to them. In return, parents give their children money in red envelopes.

My ancestors on the father side is Chinese. We still carry some of these traditions in the family like having 12 kinds of fruits in the table, cooking pancit or rice noodles, hanging pineapple on the front door, putting coins in the rice, throwing small oranges called kiat-kiat with coins in the open door from inside going out. To us this means luck and praying for thanks. I believe in luck but you have to work for it. These are only guide for us. Luck will not come your way if you are lazy. You have to work with patient and perseverance and with the Lord's guide which means prayers.
